Round Highlights:

  • Rounds ship to you inside of protective plastic flips or mint tubes of 20 rounds!
  • Fourth design issued in the Molon Labe collection by Intaglio Mint!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
  • A Spartan warrior stands to throw his spear toward a Persian war elephant on the obverse.
  • Intaglio Mint’s seal and beautiful background design elements are featured on the reverse.

During the Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas of Sparta brought 300 of his elite Spartan warriors to the Hot Gates at Thermopylae along with a force of nearly 7,000 other Greek soldiers from various other city-states. This meager force was set to go up against the invading Persian Army. Leonidas had chosen this site because it offered the Greeks the best opportunity to choke in the Persian advance and slow their movement.

At the outset of the battle, Leonidas was offered the opportunity to surrender his forces and join the might of the Persian Empire. He refused to do so and even brashly challenged the Persians to “come and take” the weapons of him and his men. For three days, the Spartans and other Greek soldiers faced wave after wave of Persians, including the dreaded war elephants.

On the reverse side of 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds is the image of the Intaglio Mint seal. The “I” figure resembles a column and has a sunburst radial background field. Around the outer border design field are inscriptions of “One Troy Ounce” and “.999 Fine Silver.” This portion of the design field includes a stippled background field.

The obverse face of 1 oz Molon Labe Rounds includes a fourth design inspired by the Battle of Thermopylae. In this scene, the Persian Army has unleashed one of its most imposing weapons. The war elephant’s massive size was enough to frighten enemies, but it also carried a tower in which a rider and archers would stream onto the battlefield to destroy the enemy.

These 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds are available to you for purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The rounds are housed individually inside of plastic flips or in bulk with mint tubes of 20 rounds.
