Each of the unique designs in the Silver Molon Labe Series captures a different stage of the Battle of Thermopylae. This infamous battle inspired the feature film 300 and its story has been told time and again throughout human history. The battle pitted a delaying force of 300 Spartans and 7,000 supporting Greek soldiers against a Persian Army that historians note numbered anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 men in total.

King Leonidas bravely stood up to the invading Persians in an effort to buy time for the remaining Greek city-states to muster an army capable of meeting the Persians in open battle. Leonidas used the terrain to his advantage at Thermopylae, funneling the Persian forces into a narrow ravine where his elite Spartan warriors could better handle the Persians in smaller numbers with each engagement.

On the obverse of 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds is an image of King Leonidas. Though Leonidas and his Spartans fought bravely, forcing the Persians to pay a terrible price to secure passage through Thermopylae in the end, the battle cost all 300 Spartans their lives. Here, Leonidas is overcome by arrows and Persian warriors as he nears his death in the battle.

The reverse side of Silver Molon Labe Rounds comes with a standard Intaglio Mint design. The mint logo features at the center of the round’s design field with a swirling background patter and identifying hallmarks around the edge. Each round is dated 2022 with Roman numerals.

These 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds are available as the Type X release. The rounds are individually packaged in plastic flips with acrylic tubes offered for multiples of 20 rounds.
