The Guilder was one of Europe’s longest-used denominations prior to the introduction of the Euro. Struck by the Royal Dutch Mint, the Guilder was the official currency of the Netherlands for more than 300 years. One of the most popular forms of the Guilder was the gold coins of the 19th century. Today, Gold 10 Guilders Coins from the reign of Queen Wilhelmina are available to you online at Silver.com.

Gold guilders date to the early 19th century. In 1818, the first denominations in the Gold Guilder were produced by the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht. The coins were initially struck from 1818 to 1853 and then reintroduced in 1875. Most of the Gold Guilders issued from 1875 to 1933 featured the effigy of the same person: Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. She reigned from 1890 to 1948, longer than any other Dutch monarch in history.

All of the Gold 10 Guilders Coins in this listing come to you with individual plastic flips. The coins received through this listing are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Historic circulation coins like these that are in BU condition show no signs of wear and tear from circulation, but that does not mean the coin is a perfect specimen. Any BU coin has the potential to showcase common flaws that result from the striking process during production.

Please bear in mind that Silver.com offers any Gold 10 Guilders Coin from the reign of Queen Wilhelmina in this listing. This means that the exact dates and effigies of the Queen could vary on the coin you receive. As such, if you buy more than one, you could get coins with matching designs and dates.

Queen Wilhelmina is featured on the obverse of Gold 10 Guilders Coins. Wilhelmina ascended to the throne in 1890 at the age of 10, but she was not inaugurated as Queen until 1898 when she was 18. The first Gold 10 Guilder issued with her effigy came in 1897 when she was just 17. Any coin in this listing will feature her effigy in either left-profile or right-profile relief with inscriptions around the portrait in Dutch.

In the reverse design of Gold 10 Guilders Coins, the Royal Arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands features on the coins. This seal includes a rampant lion on a shield that is topped by a large crown.
