Roosevelt ordered the collection and melting of all circulation gold coins to bolster federal reserves. As a result, surviving coins today are extremely rare and limited in availability. The $10 Gold Indian Eagle was one of the most popular coins in circulation during its heyday, due in large part to its denomination and convenient size. The Gold Indian Eagle was struck between 1907 and 1933, and was the direct successor to the longest running coin in American history, the Liberty Gold Eagle (1836 to 1907).

Each of the coins in this product listing is available in Extremely Fine condition. A coin with a grade of XF has light wear visible only on the highest points of the coin. The wear is visible without the aid of magnification, but it usually quite small and does not mean the coin’s luster is completely gone.

On the obverse side is the left-profile portrait of “Lady Indian.” The popular depiction of Liberty wearing a war bonnet includes the year of minting engraved below, and 13 stars surrounding her as a representation of the original American colonies.

The reverse side includes a unique depiction of the bald eagle on American coins. In this design, the bald eagle sits perched atop a cluster of arrows. Those arrows are wrapped in an olive branch, signifying the nation’s readiness for war, but its perpetual desire for peace.

$10 Gold Indian Eagle coins were produced by the United States Mint at the Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver locations throughout its production run.
