In the 19th century, the Royal Mint introduced an effigy of Queen Victoria on national currency that was inspired by the tale of Una and the Lion. The designer behind the image was William Wyon, the Chief Engraver of the Royal Mint from 1828 until his death in 1851. The Una and the Lion design he created was used on British coins into the 1880s and was one of his most memorable along with the “Young Head” effigy of Queen Victoria on British coins and her bust featured on the Black Penny stamp.

All 100 oz Silver Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bars listed here are new from the mint. The bars in this weight ship with protective packaging materials around each individual bar and the items ship inside cardboard boxes.

On the obverse of the Silver Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bars is a depiction of Queen Victoria in left-profile relief. Her Majesty is depicted here as inspired by the Una and the Lion tale. She stands in left-profile relief holding the monarch’s scepter and orb as her faithful lion sits at her side as companion and protector. This design was created by Jody Clark as a modern vision of Queen Victoria based on Wyon’s original design.

The reverse field of 100 oz Silver The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bars includes the Royal Mint logo with inscriptions of the weight, purity, and metal content. On both sides of the bars, you will find an ornate swirling pattern.
