During the 1860s, the San Francisco Mint played a key role in producing American gold coins. Before the start of the US Civil War, the Philadelphia Mint and New Orleans Mint were major contributors to the production of Liberty Double Eagle gold coins and other denominations. Throughout the Civil War and Reconstruction, most production was redirected to the San Francisco Mint. Currently, you can find 1867-S Pre-33 $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagle Coins in certified condition at Silver.com.

The obverse of the 1867-S $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagle Coin showcases a portrait of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1849 by James B. Longacre, this left-profile relief depicts Liberty with a coronet crown and surrounded by a ring of 13 stars. The date appears at the bottom of the coin.

On the reverse side of the 1867-S Pre-33 Liberty Double Eagles is a representation of the Great Seal of the United States. This design features a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield, arrows of war, and an olive branch of peace. Above the eagle’s head, there is a ring of 13 stars. These coins are Type II specimens, referring to the second version of the reverse design.

From 1850 to 1866, the US Mint produced Liberty Double Eagles without the national motto on the reverse. In late 1866, however, the Mint added the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” within the ring of stars above the eagle’s head. Type II coins were issued from 1866 to 1876, before the Type III design took over, continuing until 1907. While Type III coins maintained the motto, they changed the denomination inscription from “Twenty D” to “Twenty Dollars.”

These 1867-S Pre-33 $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagle Coins are in AU55 condition. This grade indicates they are near the high end of the About Uncirculated range. Expect medium to near-full luster with very light signs of wear at the highest points.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
