Struck by the U.S. Mint for over fifty years, the classic Seated Liberty Dime has long been in high demand among collectors and investors, a demand that’s unlikely to wane anytime soon. One of the largest issues of this coin came from the Philadelphia Mint in 1868, a mintage of around 464,000 coins that outstripped the output of the five prior years combined. Despite that initial abundance, Mint State coins from that year are rare, elusive, and particularly prized. The leading coin grading service PCGS estimates that the surviving supply of dimes from that year with Mint State grades higher than 60 comes to no more than forty coins. The 1868 Seated Liberty Dime is available in an exclusive limited supply from Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships in a tamper-proof plastic slab with a label indicating its PCGS-certified grade of Mint State 62!
  • Issued in 1868, struck at the Philadelphia Mint!
  • Consists of .0729 Troy ounce of 90% silver.
  • Face value of one dime backed by the United States of America.
  • Obverse field features an image of a seated Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse field features a laurel wreath.

The 1868 Seated Liberty Dime ships in the kind of tamper-proof plastic slab packaging pioneered by PCGS, with a label to verify its grade of Mint State 62. This indicates acceptable eye quality and a somewhat impaired luster, along with clusters of small contact marks and the chance of noticeable nicks and hairline scratches appearing in prime focal areas. Each shipment is fully insured against loss or damage by Silver.com.

The coin’s grade is certified by the experts at PCGS, a standard-setting third-party coin grading service that specializes in reliable assessments of rare coins. This 1868 dime has been known to present special challenges for coin graders: it was struck with a dozen die pairs, two of which were employed for both circulation and Proof coins, leading to some confusion even among experts about which coins qualify for each category. The certifying label on this piece’s packaging ensures that this kind of confusion will be averted for dealers.

The dime’s obverse side features Lady Liberty seated, holding a shield with her right hand and gripping a wand with a Phrygian cap adorning its end in her left, surrounded by the inscriptions “United States of America” and “1868.” The reverse field features an inscription of the face value “One Dime” framed by a laurel wreath.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
