For a total of 28 years across the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, the United States Mint issued the Morgan Dollar design on its US silver dollar coins. The coins were issued from 1878 to 1904 and in 1921. Over the course of time, five branch mints of the US Mint issued the coins, but none issued fewer coins than the Carson City Mint. Now, 1881-CC Silver Morgan Dollars are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com.

In 1878, the United States Mint launched the Silver Morgan Dollar Series. When this new design was issued, the US had been without fresh silver dollar production for five years following the cancellation of the Seated Liberty Series. As production began in 1878, the Philadelphia Mint, San Francisco Mint, and Carson City Mint all contributed to the production of the coins.

The Carson City Mint had opened in 1870 and previously issued coins of the US Eagle gold denomination, as well as smaller silver denominations. From 1878 until its permanent closure in 1893, the Carson City Mint would predominantly issue the Silver Morgan Dollar. Production at Carson City ran from 1878 to 1885, paused from 1886 to 1888, and resumed in 1889. The 1893 closure of the mint meant the end of Silver Morgan Dollar coining at Carson City.

For the obverse design of 1881-CC Silver Morgan Dollars, the mint featured the effigy of Liberty from George T. Morgan. This design features the bust of Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and coronet crown on her head. The design field also includes 13 stars with a date mark at the bottom.

On the reverse of the 1881-CC Silver Morgan Dollar is an image of the heraldic eagle. Designed by George T. Morgan as well, this image shows the eagle in front-facing relief as its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.

These 1881-CC Silver Morgan Dollars are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and come with protective flips. The coins have full, original mint luster, but may also feature production-related flaws like breaks in the luster or spotted surfaces. Please keep in mind that silver coins of this age may show toning of the silver. This acceptable feature for BU coins of this age results from the natural oxidation process and does not impact the value of the silver.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
