Silver Morgan Dollar collecting was changed forever in the 1960s with the discovery of vast stores of uncirculated coins in the series from the Carson City Mint. After an audit by the Government Services Administration, it was discovered that a majority of the Silver Morgan Dollars issued by the Carson City Mint in the 1870s and 1880s never actually made it into circulation, instead sitting in US Treasury vaults for nearly a century. The GSA later auctioned these coins off to the public in the 1970s and early 1980s. Right now, GSA-packaged 1883-CC Silver Morgan Dollars are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

Each of the 1883-CC Silver Morgan Dollar Coins available to you in this listing comes with the original packaging the Government Services Administration used to present the coins during its public auctions in the 1970s and 1980s. The coin itself is housed in a hard plastic holder with a presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity included.

After the discovery of the massive haul of Silver Morgan Dollars sitting in US Treasury vaults, the landscape shifted for collectors in the Silver Morgan Dollar market. Some of the once-rare dates were now more common. Among the date marks to change almost overnight were the Carson City Mint coins from the 1880s. The 1883 release, for example, had an original mintage of 1,204,000 silver dollars. However, the GSA audit found that 755,000 of these coins had never reached circulation, and instead sat in the Treasury vaults for nearly a century.

Lady Liberty is found on the obverse side of 1883-CC Silver Morgan Dollars from the United States Mint. The design shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a field of 13 stars around her portrait and a date mark at the bottom.

The heraldic eagle of the United States is on the reverse field of 1883-CC Silver Morgan Dollars. It was created by George T. Morgan and comes with an eagle in front-facing relief clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
