The large format Silver Certificates were issued by the United States from 1878 until 1923. The 1899 $2 certificates feature George Washington and are extremely popular among collectors of vintage paper currency. The notes in this listing have been certified by PCGS as well, which further enhances their numismatic appeal and value. Today, 1899 $2 Silver Certificate Notes are available to you in Very Fine condition online at Silver.com.

Note Highlights:

  • Delivered to you in a plastic currency sleeve from PCGS!
  • Classic large-format paper currency!
  • Last series for the $2 silver certificate!
  • Bears a face value of $2 (USD) backed by the US federal government.
  • Graded Very Fine 20 by PCGS.
  • The obverse side depicts George Washington in a portrait.
  • On the reverse field, the denomination is listed.

Today, silver certificates are considered unique collectibles that offer an exciting glimpse into the previous monetary policies of the United States. At the time they were issued, these notes were actually redeemable for genuine silver dollars. However, as of 1968, they are merely considered legal tender and not redeemable for anything except for Federal Reserve Notes. Large format notes, sometimes called Horse Blankets, are especially interesting. They are also quite exquisite on an artistic level, as the larger size gave the designers more space to experiment with complex imagery.

When you purchase 1890 Silver Certificate Notes in this online listing, they will arrive in protective currency sleeves. PCGS, one of the leading third-party grading services, has assigned these notes a grade of Very Fine 20. Folds and crumpling could be present throughout the field. While no serious flaws will be present, there may be some defects across the surface. The currency sleeves include a PCGS label bearing the official certification information.

The obverse of $2 Silver Certificate Notes contains a portrait of George Washington. This is the first time George Washington appeared on a $2 silver certificate. The obverse also features allegorical representations of Agriculture and Mechanics. On either side of the field, we find the serial number in blue ink. Also in blue ink is the Treasury seal on the right side.

On the reverse of 1899 $2 Silver Certificates, the denomination of the note is listed. This information is shown numerically in each corner of the field. Text is also featured on the reverse that reads United States of America, Two Dollars, Silver Certificate. We also find an ornate border pattern and other decorative elements on the reverse.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
