Designed in the classic large format style, these $2 silver certificates are a truly novel collectible for paper currency enthusiasts. As their title suggests, these notes were once redeemable for genuine silver. However, since 1964, they have simply been considered legal tender similar to a Federal Reserve note. These notes also have the added benefit of being certified by the Paper Money Guaranty. Today, 1899 $2 Silver Certificate Notes are available to you online at Silver.com in certified condition.

Note Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic currency sleeve from PMG!
  • Classic large format design!
  • Final $2 large format silver certificate!
  • Bears a face value of $2 (USD) from the US government.
  • Issued a grade of Choice Fine 15 by the Paper Money Guaranty.
  • The obverse features George Washington.
  • On the reverse, there are denomination and obligation details.

The $2 Silver Certificate debuted in 1886 and depicted Winfield Scott Hancock. The following two designs featured William Windom and the Allegory of Science portrait. Then in 1899, George Washington was introduced for the final large format $2 silver certificate design. This would also prove to be the final $2 silver certificate in general, as the denomination was discontinued for the small format makeover of 1928.

All 1899 Silver Certificate Notes in this online listing will arrive in clear plastic currency sleeves. These sleeves are ideal for storage and display and include a label bearing the grade of Choice Fine 15. This grade from the Paper Money Guaranty indicates that various signs of circulation, including many folds, may be present on these notes.

A portrait of George Washington appears on the obverse of these Silver Certificate Notes. A male and female appear on either side of the portrait and serve as allegorical representations of Mechanics and Agriculture. The obverse also contains a blue Treasury seal along with the words “this certifies that there have been deposited in the Treasury of the United States of America two silver dollars payable to the bearer on demand.”

Obligation language and the denomination are located on the reverse of the 1899 $2 Silver Certificates. The obligation language appears just below the center of the note, while the denomination is shown in numerical form in each corner. We also find several ornate decorative arrangements across the field. The words Silver Certificate, United States of America also appear on the reverse.

We also never have access to your credit/debit card details, as they are securely communicated directly to the payment processor (Authorize.net) and never retained by Silver.com. For this reason, we also don't process credit/debit card orders over the phone, as it is the least secure way to process those transactions.

Do you charge sales tax?

We are required to collect sales tax in certain states. You can review your states sales tax policy here: https://www.silver.com/taxes. You should always consult with a tax adviser for specific advice in your area.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
