One of the earlier commemorative gold coins for sale from the United States Mint was issued more than a century ago. The $1 commemorative gold coin introduced by the US Mint in 1904 was issued for two years and honored the two-year expedition of the Corps of Discovery, the group lead by Lewis & Clark to explore the lands of the Louisiana Purchase back in 1804. Right now, 1905 $1 Gold Lewis and Clark Coins are available to purchase online from Silver.com in certified condition.

Each 1905 $1 Gold Lewis and Clark Coin available in this listing at Silver.com comes with an Almost Uncirculated 55 grade from the PCGS. Also known as About Uncirculated, this specific grade falls in the general AU category and refers to coins with impressive visuals given the age and use of each coin. In particular, these coins can have medium or full mint luster remaining, with either extremely light or trade wear on the highest relief points only.

The 1904 introduction of the $1 Gold Lewis and Clark Dollar marked the centennial of the expedition by the Corps of Discovery to explore the lands acquired by the United States from France in the Louisiana Purchase. The two-year release of these commemorative gold dollars featured limited mintages each year, with the 1905 coin boasting an original mintage that was 10,000 coins higher than the 1904 issue. However, both date marks had a significant portion of the dollars melted down in the 1930s.

The obverse of each 1905 Gold Lewis and Clark Dollar Coin comes with a portrait of Meriwether Lewis. A captain in the United States Army, Lewis was also the private secretary of President Thomas Jefferson and was chosen directly by the Commander-in-Chief to lead the mission through the Louisiana Territory. On the reverse of 1905 $1 Gold Lewis and Clark Dollars is a left-profile portrait of William Clark. A former lieutenant in the US Army, Clark was chosen by Lewis to co-lead the expedition.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
