The Liberty Head Nickel series was minted from 1883 until 1912 and remains a notable part of United States numismatic history. The coin was designed by Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber and is closely associated with the famous 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, an issue known in just five surviving specimens. While that rare coin often receives the most attention, the overall series continues to interest collectors thanks to its classic appearance, historical background during the late 19th century, and a manageable number of dates and mint marks. This 1906 example is a proof coin graded PR64 by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Today, certified 1906 Liberty Head Nickels are available online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in an individual slab!
  • 24th issue of Liberty Head Nickels!
  • Produced by the Philadelphia Mint!
  • Contains 75% copper.
  • Issued a face value of $.05 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a grade of PR64 from the PCGS.
  • Lady Liberty is on the obverse.
  • A wreath surrounds the Roman numeral V on the reverse.

These 1906 Liberty Head Nickels are available in PR64 condition. As proof coins, they display an attractive overall appearance with typical mint luster. A few small contact marks may appear, sometimes grouped together, and one or two moderate marks could also be present. Light hairline patches may be visible as well, along with minor scuffs or other surface imperfections.

The obverse of the 1906 Liberty Head Nickel features a left-facing portrait of Liberty created by Charles E. Barber. Liberty is shown wearing a coronet inscribed with her name, while her hair is drawn back and styled neatly. The portrait reflects the classical design style used on many American coins during the late 1800s.

On the reverse of the 1906 Liberty Head Nickel is a large Roman numeral “V,” which represents the five-cent denomination of the coin. Surrounding the numeral is a decorative wreath made from cotton, corn, wheat, and tobacco plants. These crops symbolize agricultural production across the United States and are tied together at the bottom with a ribbon.

The 1906 Liberty Head Nickel was produced at the Philadelphia Mint and does not feature a mint mark, which was common for coins struck there during this time period. The mint produced approximately 38.6 million pieces that year, making the 1906 issue one of the more available dates in the series. While circulated examples are relatively easy to find, coins with stronger preservation and detail are less frequently encountered due to their widespread circulation.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
