The Gold Liberty Half Eagle Coin debuted in 1839 as the fourth design on this $5 denomination in the US Eagle Series. The Liberty Half Eagle featured a portrait of Liberty on the obverse with the Heraldic Eagle of the United States on the reverse. This design series from the mint was the longest-running design in the Half Eagle’s history. Today, 1907 Pre-33 Gold $5 Liberty Half Eagles are available to you online at Silver.com.

The variations among the two design types used for the Gold Liberty Half Eagle were rather subtle in nature. Both of the variations related to the reverse design element were limited to the inscriptions on the coins. The original Type 1 coin was used from 1839 to 1866 and lacked the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the coins. The Type 2 coin added this motto inscription on a banner above the eagle’s head. The Type 2 design was used from 1866 until 1907 when the Liberty Head design was replaced by the incuse-struck Indian Head design for the Gold Half Eagle.
All of these 1907 Pre-33 $5 Gold Liberty Half Eagles are available to you in Extremely Fine-plus condition. Coins in this condition typically have some traces of the mint luster remaining, with light wear patterns and friction across the high relief points of the coin.
On the obverse of Pre-33 $5 Gold Liberty Half Eagles is an effigy of Liberty. This left-facing bust of Liberty includes a coronet crown on her head with her hair neatly tied up in a bun at the back of her head, with her remaining locks neatly falling down the back of her neck. The field also includes a ring of 13 stars and a date mark.
The reverse side of 1907 $5 Gold Half Eagles comes with the image of the Heraldic Eagle of the United States. The eagle supports the US national shield and has a ring of banner over its head. Its wingtips are connected by the banner and the inscriptions include the national motto of the United States, as well as the nation of issue and face value.
