Between 1915 and 1934, the United States issued Federal Reserve Bank Notes in addition to its other circulating paper currency. These notes were backed by just one of the 12 Federal Reserve banks instead of all of them as a whole. In this listing, you will find a $1 FRBN backed by the Chicago branch that has been officially certified by the Paper Money Guaranty. Right now, Very Fine 1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Notes are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Note Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective currency sleeve from PMG!
  • First series of $1 Federal Reserve Bank Notes!
  • Vintage large format note!
  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the United States government.
  • Bears a grade of Very Fine 30 from the Paper Money Guaranty.
  • A portrait of George Washington is found on the obverse.
  • A flying bald eagle is featured in the reverse design.

Each of these $1 Federal Reserve Bank Notes was sent to the Paper Money Guaranty for grading. PMG was founded in 2005 and is one of the world’s leading third-party currency grading companies. With a grade of Very Fine 30, you can expect light soiling and roughly 7 to 10 folds. These notes will arrive to you in protective currency sleeves that include a label bearing the official certification details.

Following the Pittman Act of 1918, The United States added emergency Federal Reserve Bank Notes to their currency production. These included $1, $2, and $50 denominations. This was because, under the act of 1918, silver certificates were temporarily taken out of circulation. The 1918 Series was the only time $1 Federal Reserve Bank Notes were issued, as the denomination was left out of the updated small-size 1929 Series.

A portrait of George Washington is found on the obverse of 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Notes. Washington is featured on the far-left side, while in the middle there is text reading The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Illinois Will Pay to the Bearer on Demand One Dollar. Additional obverse information includes the serial number shown twice, a blue Treasury seal, and the signatures of the Treasurer and Secretary of the Treasury.

A flying bald eagle is featured on the reverse of these Federal Reserve Bank Notes. The standout feature of the reverse, this image captures the bird as it flies right with the American flag held in its talons. Also on the reverse is the denomination shown numerically in the corners and text reading One Dollar, National Currency Federal Reserve Bank Note.

We also never have access to your credit/debit card details, as they are securely communicated directly to the payment processor (Authorize.net) and never retained by Silver.com. For this reason, we also don't process credit/debit card orders over the phone, as it is the least secure way to process those transactions.

Upon completing checkout with a VISA or MasterCard credit/debit card, you may be promoted for additional details to confirm your identity and protect our customers against credit card fraud.

Do you charge sales tax?

We are required to collect sales tax in certain states. You can review your states sales tax policy here: https://www.silver.com/taxes. You should always consult with a tax adviser for specific advice in your area.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
