The Walking Liberty half dollar is a popular coin with investors, featuring an iconic design that has attracted admiration and emulation for decades. Created by Adolph Weinman and portraying Lady Liberty walking toward the sun, this was one of the designs that replaced the famous Barber Coinage that had dominated dimes, quarters and half dollars previously. Even though it proved difficult to properly strike, the beauty of that artwork led to its longevity, and it remained in production for over three decades. Featuring a high-quality strike and luster, the 1944-D Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar is now available from Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab, labeled with the coin’s earned NGC MS65 grade!

  • Contains 90% silver and 10% copper.
  • Face value of a half dollar backed by the United States of America.
  • Obverse side features Adolph Weinman’s famous Walking Liberty design.
  • Reverse side features a bald eagle rising from a mountaintop perch.

This 1944-D Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar comes in a protective plastic slab that carries a label with its certified grade MS65. Featuring its full original luster with only light and scattered contact marks, it’s appealing to the eye and carries the “D” mint-mark to confirm its provenance at the Denver Mint. Silver.com tracks and fully insures each shipment against loss or damage.

The story of the Walking Liberty coin began when Robert W. Woolley took office as Mint Engraver in 1915. Believing that the law required him to replace any coinage that had been in production for twenty-five years, he reached out to the Commission of Fine Arts to find designers for a new range of coins to replace the venerable Barber Coinage, which had carried variations of the same design by the previous Mint Engraver Charles Barber. One of the designs that resulted was this distinctive half dollar, first struck in 1916 and remaining in production until 1947.

The Walking Liberty image dominates the obverse: Lady Liberty striding toward the rising sun with a US flag over her shoulder and an olive branch in the crook of her arm. She is accompanied by inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1944.”

A bald eagle features on the reverse side, rising from a mountaintop perch. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “HALF DOLLAR.”

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
