All 1960 Jefferson Nickels in this online listing were produced by the US Mint and hold legal tender status within the United States. The coins have been sent to PCGS for grading and received a near-perfect score of Proof 69. As proof coins, these will feature frosted devices and mirror-like fields. Their Deep Cameo designation refers to the fact that these coins contain an extra high degree of frost on their devices. Each of these coins is housed in a protective slab from PCGS, which also includes a label bearing the official certification information.

President Thomas Jefferson is featured on the obverse of these 1960 Nickels. This portrait was completed by artist Felix Schlag and was featured on the nickel between 1938 and 2004. Since then, two different portraits of Jefferson have been used for the nickel five-cent piece. This effigy is accompanied by inscriptions, which read Liberty, In God We Trust, 1960.

The house at Monticello is depicted on the reverse side of 1960 Jefferson Nickels. Also designed by Schlag, this image nicely captures the grandeur and sophistication of Jefferson’s famous property. There are also inscriptions on the reverse reading Monticello, E Pluribus Unum, United States of America, and Five Cents.

One of the principal architects of the United States, Thomas Jefferson championed individual liberty and a limited national government. Jefferson was famously a member of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence, a founding document that argued for American freedom from overreaching British colonial rule. Jefferson was also known as a jack of all trades, as outside of political life he displayed mastery in areas such as mathematics, architecture, and horticulture.
