Proof Silver American Eagle Coins feature mint marks denoting their place of origin. In this set, you’ll find three different mint marks on the coins based upon their year of production. Proof Silver Eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1992 and feature “S” mint marks. The 1993 to 2000 coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint and have “P” mint marks, while all coins since 2001 were produced at the West Point Mint and bear “W” mint marks.
On the obverse of all Proof Silver American Eagle Coins is the image of Walking Liberty. Her figure is depicted walking toward the sun on the horizon in pursuit of a brighter tomorrow. This was designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for the nation’s 50-cent piece. The reverse includes the heraldic eagle of the United States. Refined for the Proof Silver American Eagles in 1986, it depicts the bald eagle with the nation’s heraldic shield on its chest.
