Its bullion counterpart is also the most popular investment-grade option in this series and set an all-time high mintage for the Gold Eagle series in 1999 with 2.75 million coins issued that year. The 1988 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle set the third-highest mintage figure ever for the collectible version with this inaugural release.

The NGC certified these coins as PF70 specimens with full, original mint luster and not detracting flaws. The Ultra-cameo designation is for those proof coins with deeply-mirrored background fields and design sets overtop that have strong, frosted matte elements.

The obverse of all 1988 Proof Gold American Eagle Coins features the image of Lady Liberty. This iconic design came from Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and was the first in American coining to depict Liberty in a distinctly American pose and design.

On the reverse of 1988 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins is the image of a family of bald eagles. The mother closely guards a group of hatchlings in the nest as the father flies back toward the nest with an olive branch in its talons.

All Proof Gold Eagle fractional-weight coins were issued by the Philadelphia Mint with “P” mint marks from 1987 (1/2 oz coin introduction) to 1993. From the 1986 debut of Gold American Eagle coins to 1991, all coins in the series had date marks with Roman numerals. As such, these 1988 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles have the “P” mint mark and a date mark in Roman numerals.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase.
