Proof Gold American Coins were rolled out by the United States Mint over the course of three years starting in 1986. The 1 oz coin debuted with the original bullion collection in 1986. The 1/2 oz proof coin was the first fractional weight and debuted in 1987. The 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins debuted in 1988.

All 1990 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagles in this listing come to you in perfect condition according to the NGC. Coins with a PF70 certification feature full, original mint luster and lack all possible detracting flaws. The ultra-cameo, or UCAM, designation is reserved for proof coins with brilliant visual aspects that include strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.

The obverse of all 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins features the fabulous image of Lady Liberty from the $20 Gold Double Eagle. Originally designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this design depicts a frontal image of Liberty as she walks away from Washington D.C. She is surrounded by 50 stars and you can see the US Capitol Building at her feet in the background.

On the reverse of 1990 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins is Miley Busiek’s bald eagle design. All American Eagle coins from the US Mint feature a different depiction of the eagle on the reverse, and Busiek’s family of bald eagles at their nest is unique to the Gold Eagle collection.

These 1990 1 oz Proof Gold Eagles have “W” mint marks on the obverse from the West Point Mint. These coins are also one of only six issue years in the Gold Eagle Series that feature date marks in Roman numerals, a practice that continued through the 1991 issue.
