The American Eagle Coin program began in 1986 with just a few different options for buyers. Today, there are four different gold weights and three different finishes for people to choose from when making their purchases. With 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options in bullion, proof, and uncirculated finishes, there is something for everyone.
There are also four different metal types, each with its own unique designs. You can buy American Eagle Coins in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
The obverse design shows Lady Liberty walking gracefully away from the Capitol building in Washington D.C. as the sun gleams behind her. She carries a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This design was originally used on Gold Double Eagle coins back in 1907.
On the reverse, you will find Miley Busiek’s depiction of a family of bald eagles. The sculptor’s design shows a large male as he returns to a nest with an olive branch. In the nest, a female and hatchling are waiting for him to return. This design was created just for use on Gold American Eagle Coins.
Each of these coins contains 91.67 gold by weight, making them each exactly 1/2 Troy ounce of pure 22-karat gold. Copper and silver are combined with gold to give these coins additional strength and durability.
We ship these coins in plastic flips for their protection. Our clear plastic flips ensure the safety of the coins during shipping and storage, while allowing the coins to be clearly seen when on display.
