For the 1994 issue of Proof Gold Eagles, all four weights in the collection experienced increases in mintage due to greater demand. However, none of the coins saw its mintage increase as much as the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle. While the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz coins, for example, had mintage increases of roughly 700 and 1,700 coins respectively, the 1 oz coin jumped by more than 12,300 coins from its 1993 release. This year-over-year gain remains the single largest increase from one year to the next for the 1 oz coin.
All of the 1994 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins available to you here today are perfect specimens. The NGC issues a PF70 grade to proof coins which showcase full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. The included UCAM label stands for ultra-cameo and denotes a proof coin with strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.
On the obverse of all Proof Gold American Eagle coins is the design of Liberty created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This depiction symbolizes a young nation’s emergence on the world stage as it marches confidently into a brighter future.
The reverse of the 1994 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle, you’ll find the bald eagle design from Miley Busiek. Developed in 1986 exclusively for the Gold Eagle coins, this image features a nest full of hatchlings guarded by a female as a male eagle is shown flying over the nest. All of these 1994 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle coins feature a “W” mint mark from the West Point Mint.
