Following the lowest mintage year for the Proof Silver American Eagle in program history, the United States Mint experienced a spike in demand in 1995. Although later anniversary would be celebrated based upon dates, 1995 was a celebration of the 10th issue of the Silver American Eagle coins from the US Mint. Right now, 1995-P Proof Silver American Eagle coins are available for purchase on Silver.com.

In the 21st century, when the United States Mint celebrated anniversaries for the Silver American Eagle it did so based upon the year of issue, rather than the number of times the coin was issued. For example, the 30th anniversary is celebrated in 2016 (1986-2016), just as the 20th anniversary came in 2006.
In 1995, the United States Mint celebrated the 10th issue as the 10th anniversary of the coin. On top of the 438,000 1995-P Proof Silver American Eagle coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint, a limited run of 30,125 proof Silver Eagles were produced at the West Point Mint in New York.
A special 10th Anniversary American Eagle 5-Coin Set was released in 1995 containing a proof Gold Eagle in each of the four available sizes, as well as the W Proof Silver American Eagle, leaving the 1995-P Proof Silver American Eagle available for individual purchase outside of the celebratory set.
Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty image, created in 1916, features on the obverse of the Silver American Eagle every year. The reverse features the design of the heraldic eagle from John Mercanti each year as well, with neither side featuring new designs since introduction in 1986.
The special W Proof Silver American Eagle offered this year was the first time the coins were struck in West Point, and set the stage for proof production to eventually shift to West Point full time in 2001.
