Gold American Eagle coins are part of a larger American Eagle series from the United States Mint. These coins are produced on an annual basis in gold, silver, and platinum versions. The gold and silver programs each have three versions available: bullion, proof, and burnished. The Platinum Eagle is only available in bullion and proof.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 image of Lady Liberty was chosen to grace the obverse face of the nation’s official gold bullion product in 1986. Saint-Gaudens’ image was first used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, and is considered the finest American coin design in national history.

The image of Lady Liberty on the obverse of all Gold American Eagles depicts her in full-length figure as she strides forward from the national capital in Washington D.C. Her torch is held aloft as a guiding light for the nation as it heads toward an unknown future.
