The 1995 issue year at the United States Mint marked the 10th anniversary of the American Eagle Series. Both the Silver American Eagle and Gold American Eagle coins were issued in 1986. While the silver bullion and proof coins debuted at the same time in 1986, the bullion and proof Gold Eagles had a different release schedule.

Bullion Gold American Eagle coins all debuted in the four available weights in 1986, but the Proof Gold Eagle was initially offered only as a 1 oz coin. In 1987, the mint expanded the series to include the 1/2 oz coin. In 1988, the mint expanded the offering again to feature the 1/10 oz coin and these 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles.

On the obverse of all Proof Gold American Eagle Coins is America’s greatest vision of Liberty. Her figure is depicted free of constraints as her gown and hair blow in the wind while she walks toward the viewer on the coin’s surface. Her torch is held high above her head in her right hand with an olive branch in her left.

The reverse of the 1995 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle coin bears the image of a bald eagle. In this case, it is a family of bald eagles. There is one male flying overhead of the nest while a female sits in the nest sheltering a hatchling under her wing.

These 1995 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles earned PF70 grades from the NGC. Considered perfect specimens, each one has its full, original mint luster and lacks any detracting flaws. The included UCAM label is for proof coins with contrasting frosted, matte design elements and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
