Queen Elizabeth II is shown on the obverse of 1999 10 oz Australian Kangaroos. Ian Rank-Broadley’s classic portrait depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara in right-profile relief. There are also inscriptions on the obverse field that read Elizabeth II, Australia, 1000 Dollars.

A Red Kangaroo is featured on the reverse side of 1999 10 oz Gold Kangaroos. This iconic creature of Australia is depicted jumping through the air towards the left side. You will find this design on all the 10 oz Gold Kangaroos produced by the Perth Mint. Inscriptions on the reverse read The Australian Nugget, 10 oz, .9999 Gold, 1999, Red Kangaroo.

Kangaroos are the national animal of Australia, a label made official when the marsupial appeared on the country’s coat of arms in 1908. These beautiful creatures are known for their extraordinary leaping abilities, with some able to bound up to 35 feet through the air. They also can leap up to 10 feet high. Kangaroos have incredibly strong back legs that allow them to reach such heights, and their impressive tails enable them to maintain balance while in flight.
