The Aztec Sun Stone is one of the most well-known symbols from ancient civilizations. Its detailed design and cultural meaning make it a favorite among collectors who appreciate history and symbolic artwork. These rounds, struck in silver, gold, and copper, offer a detailed version of the original stone carving. Each piece provides both precious metal content and a connection to the story of the Aztec Empire. Today, 2 oz Silver SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Rounds are available at Silver.com.

Round Highlights:

  • Comes with an individual flip!
  • Includes a detailed depiction of the Aztec Calendar Stone!
  • Made in the United States!
  • Issued by SilverTowne Mint!
  • Consists of two troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • On the obverse is the Aztec Calendar Stone.
  • The reverse features the image of Cuauhtemoc.

The function of the Aztec Sun Stone has been explored by historians for many years. Although it is often referred to as a calendar, most modern interpretations suggest it served a ceremonial purpose. It is believed to represent Aztec views of the universe, especially the concept of the fifth sun, which defines the current age. The design also shows the connection between the Aztec people and Tonatiuh, their sun god.

Each 2 oz Silver SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Round is packaged in a protective flip. This 2 oz round is one of the larger options in the series. The collection also includes other silver rounds, a copper version, and silver bars, all featuring the same Sun Stone design.

The obverse of the Silver SilverTowne Aztec Calendar Round features the detailed image of the Sun Stone. Originally carved from basalt, the design combines artistic detail with cultural significance. At the center is Tonatiuh, shown with a blade-like tongue. Around him are four panels representing earlier world ages. Surrounding those panels is a ring displaying the twenty named days of the ritual calendar. The outer sections include decorative elements, celestial imagery, and solar patterns, all bordered by two fire serpents.

On the reverse of the 2 oz Silver Aztec Calendar Round is a profile of Emperor Cuauhtemoc facing right. He became ruler of the Aztec Empire in 1520 and was the final tlatoani, as well as related to Moctezuma II. During the Spanish invasion led by Hernan Cortes, Cuauhtemoc led the defense of Tenochtitlan. Despite his efforts, the city eventually fell. He was captured in 1521 and executed by the Spanish in 1525.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
