The D-Day landings came at a tremendous cost in human lives. Estimates vary, but thousands of Allied soldiers were killed, wounded, or went missing during the initial assault. The exact number of German casualties is less certain, but it was also substantial. The beaches and surrounding areas became the final resting place for many brave soldiers from both sides.
These $2 World War II D-Day Normandy Landings Legal Tender Notes are presented in individual blue folios, making them a unique keepsake. Each note features the traditional reverse design, with the obverse enhanced by colorized, photorealistic scenes depicting Allied troops landing at Normandy.
On the obverse of the $2 D-Day Normandy Landings Legal Tender Note, President Thomas Jefferson is featured at the center, with scenes of the D-Day landings depicted on either side. The invasion focused on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the Normandy coast: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. Among these, Omaha Beach witnessed some of the most intense fighting, as Allied forces faced tough resistance from German troops who had fortified the coastline.
The reverse side of the note features John Trumbull’s iconic 1818 painting, the Declaration of Independence. This artwork, prominently displayed on the U.S. $2 bill, depicts the presentation of the draft of the Declaration of Independence to the Second Continental Congress on June 28, 1776, showing 42 of the 56 signers.
