King Christian IX became King of Denmark in 1863. Christian IX enjoyed a long reign that lasted from 1863 until his death in 1906. He was part of a junior branch of the House of Oldenburg and was not originally in line to the throne of Denmark. Because the immediate line of succession lacked a direct heir, Christian IX ascended to the throne upon the death of his second cousin, King Frederick VII.

All of the Gold 20 Kroner Danish Coins of Christian IX available here come with individual plastic flips. Coins in this listing come in circulated condition, indicating that each one will show common signs of handling such as scuff marks, contact marks, or hairlines that result from handling. On the obverse of the Gold Kroner Danish Coin is a depiction of King Christian IX of Denmark. His reign saw the introduction of Kroner denominations in gold coins, with the 10 and 20 Kroner coins introduced in 1863 when he ascended to the throne.
