The bullion and Proof Gold American Eagle coins are struck in 22-karat gold at the West Point Mint. To preserve the beautiful cameo finish of the Proof coins, they are carefully nestled into a capsule that will protect them for years to come. The capsule is placed into a mint-issued box for display that includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Silver.com currently has the 2000-W 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coin ready for purchase.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective capsule in a box ready to display!
  • 15th year of issuance of the Proof Gold American Eagle coins!
  • Consists of One-Quarter Troy ounce of actual gold content.
  • The obverse features Lady Liberty.
  • The reverse features a Bald Eagle.
  • Bears face value of $10 (USD) that is fully backed by the US government.
  • Includes a W mint mark from the West Point Mint.

The US Mint sold 36,036 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins in 2000. After sales of 98,028 in 1988, sales of the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles went on a roller coaster ride, with sales dropping to as low as 10,613 coins in 2019. After the first 4 years, sales never exceeded the 50,000 mark. The price per ounce of gold, on the other hand, trended more in the opposite direction. From 1988 to 2000, the price per ounce of gold actually fell from $410.15 to $272.65. From 2001 to 2012, the price of gold was on a streak of year after year increases, going from $276.50 in 2001 to $1,664.00 in 2012, almost a 502% increase! The price of gold has since been on a roller coaster ride of its own, still trending higher overall.

The Gold Eagle coins are mandated to be minted from gold sourced in the US. They are composed of 91.67% gold. To increase their durability, the gold is combined with 3% silver and 5.33% copper. The Gold Eagles have a W mint mark, indicating they are struck at the West Point Mint.

The 2000-W Proof Gold American Eagle coin has an obverse based upon the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty Double Eagle design. This Saint-Gaudens design first appeared on the Double Eagles from 1907–1933. It features a full-length figure of Lady Liberty striding towards you, her hair flowing behind, and in her outstretched arms are a torch in her right and an olive branch in her left.

The 2000-W Proof Gold American Eagle coin has a reverse that depicts the king of the birds of prey, a Bald Eagle. Flying towards its nest where its eagle family awaits, the male bald eagle is holding an olive branch in its talons. Miley Busiek created this design which was sculpted by Sherl J. Winter.

We also never have access to your credit/debit card details, as they are securely communicated directly to the payment processor (Authorize.net) and never retained by Silver.com. Do you charge sales tax?

We are required to collect sales tax in certain states. You can review your states sales tax policy here: https://www.silver.com/taxes. You should always consult with a tax adviser for specific advice in your area.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
