Proof Silver Eagle demand was down throughout most of the 1990s compared to the early figures from the 1980s when pent-up demand for silver powered mintage figures each year. In the 1990s, that demand cooled off and the coins sunk to a low of around 372,168 coins in 1994. From that point onward, the Proof Silver Eagle slowly moved upward. In fact, the mintage increased each year from 1997 to 20066, with only the 2002 coin experiencing a dip in demand. However, that dip was offset by the surge in demand from 2002 to 2003 that pushed the 2003 mintage above that of the 2001 coin.
The obverse of 2001-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles features a left-profile effigy of Lady Liberty. The design on this side of the coins was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and featured on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947. It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks from right to left across the design element.
On the reverse of the 2001-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle is the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design was modernized in 1986 by John Mercanti and is based on the original version of the design created by Robert Scot in the 18th century for the very first American coins.
These 2001-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle Coins are available in near-perfect condition. Coins in PR69 condition showcase full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detracting flaws. Examples of those flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that occur only outside of the primary focal points of the coin. The included DCAM label refers to contrast between the strong, frosted design and the deeply-mirrored, clear field.
