Proof Silver Eagles set a record for mintage in 1986 when the series debuted. Initial date marks like this are often the most popular in a collectible series, with anniversary date marks typically the next most popular options. From 1997 when the series hit a mintage low, the coins experienced near-constant increases in demand through 2006.
When the 2004 coin was released by the United States Mint, it was the highest mintage the series had seen since 1987. From 2004 onward, the series would continue to increase before setting a near-record mintage of just over 1 million in 2006.
Walking Liberty is found on the obverse of 2004-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles. The design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and used on the obverse of the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947. The image shows Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon with branches of oak and laurel in her left hand as her right hand reaches out for the sun.
The heraldic eagle of the United States is depicted in the reverse design of the 2004-W Proof Silver American Eagle. Several versions of this seal have been used on American coins since 1795, with this version created in 1986 by John Mercanti. It shows a powerful bald eagle in front-facing relief as it supports the US national shield. The eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, with a triangular cluster of 13 stars overhead.
These 2004-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles are available to you in near-perfect condition. Coins with a PR69 grade showcase full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin. The DCAM label stands for deep-cameo and points to the strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
