The Burnished Silver American Eagle coin made its debut from the United States Mint in 2006. The introduction of the burnished coins came on the 20th anniversary of the Silver Eagle’s first release year. When the US Mint introduced the Silver Eagle coins in 1986, only the bullion and proof options were available.

Burnished Silver Eagles from the US Mint are handled with the greatest of care during the coining process. Silver blanks are first burnished in a tumbler to add visual brilliance and then hand-fed into the coining presses. After the coins are struck, the resulting burnished coin is again hand-picked from the coining press and packaged.
On the reverse of the 2006 Burnished Silver American Eagle coin is the design of the heraldic eagle of the United States. First used in 1794 on original American coinage from the Philadelphia Mint, this is the most recent update to the heraldic eagle design which was completed by former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
The obverse of the 2006-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagle Coin bears the image of Walking Liberty. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this stunning design is considered one of the finest in American coining history and depicts Liberty as she walks toward the setting sun with an American flag draped around her body.
