The 2007 release of Gold American Eagles would be one of the most significant years in the coin program’s history. Despite rising prices for gold, demand dropped to its lowest mintage ever, but marked the start of a turning point as the American economy headed over a cliff late in the year. Today, 2007 1 oz Gold American Eagle Coins are yours to purchase online at Silver.com.

There was an extremely sharp decline in demand for the 1 oz Gold American Eagle coin in 2007. Mintage of the official gold bullion coin of the US had been sinking incrementally since hitting an all-time high in 1999, spiking upward only briefly. 2007’s mintage of just 140,016 remains the lowest mintage of the coin in program history.

Once again, the 1/10 oz coin outsold the 1 oz version of the Gold Eagle, though it too experienced a slump in demand. Mintage of the coins continued to sink despite a string of uninterrupted annual gains for the price of gold per ounce. Opening the year at $639.75, gold closed the year at $833.75 per ounce, much of that gain coming amidst the housing bubble burst and financial collapse of the American economy.

All 2007 1 oz Gold American Eagle coins listed here today are in BU condition. Coins in this condition have no signs of wear and tear, though minor flaws ranging from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks from the production process at the mint are possible.

On the obverse of the Gold Eagle is Augustus Saint-Gauden’s memorable Liberty design. Created in 1907 as the nation pushed to revitalize and modernize its coinage designs, this depiction of Liberty appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933 and is considered the nation’s best coin design.

The reverse of all 2007 1 oz Gold American Eagle coins features a unique design exclusive to the series. Created by artist and sculptor Miley Busiek, it depicts a male bald eagle flying over a nest that contains hatchlings under the watchful eye of a female eagle.
