Some of the greatest treasures in all of numismatics came out of California in the mid-19th century, created by the U.S. Assayer in San Francisco in 1851 and 1852. His name was Augustus Humbert, and the fifty-dollar octagonal ingots that bear his name are known for the artistry of their creation and the value of their pure California gold contents. The commemorative coins released in 2008 to pay tribute to Humbert’s numismatic legacy are valued collectibles in their own right, with exclusive limited mintages and minted using hand-engraved dies created by the famous modern artisan Ron Landis. Featuring a cameo Gem Proof finish certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), the 2008 2.5 oz Gold Proof Humbert Commemorative Octagon Coin is available for online purchase from Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Secured in a plastic container and bears a label confirming its NGC-certified Gem Proof grade!
  • Issued in 2008!
  • Exclusive original mintage!
  • Contains 2.5 Troy oz of .9999 Fine Gold.
  • Struck using dies hand-crafted by modern artisan Ron Landis.
  • Obverse field features an eagle.
  • Reverse field features a set of inscriptions.

The 2008 Gold Proof Humbert Commemorative Octagon Coin contains two-and-a-half Troy ounces of pure California gold and arrives in a tamper-proof plastic container with labeling to show its NGC-certified Gem Proof grade. It showcases a cameo effect with sharp raised details against mirror-like backgrounds, with a few hairline scratches being its only surface flaws.

GOLD,” while at the octagonal rim appear “AUGUSTUS HUMBERT,” “UNITED STATES ASSAYER OF GOLD,” “CALIFORNIA,” and “1852.”

The reverse field bears the inscriptions “HUMBERT GOLD INGOT,” “COMMEMORATIVE 2008,” “PURE CALIFORNIA GOLD,” and “2.5 OZ TROY 999.9 FINE,” all set against an abstract geometric pattern.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
