Proof Gold American Eagles were introduced for the first time in 1986 by the United States Mint. Unlike its bullion counterpart, the collector’s version of the coin was only available as a 1 oz product that first year. It wasn’t until a year later that the ½ oz. weight was produced, and right now the 2008-W ½ oz Proof Gold American Eagle is available on Silver.com.

These 2008-W ½ oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins from Silver.com have a perfect grade from the PCGS. Coins with a grade of 70 have their full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws on the surface.
Deep-cameo is a term used to define the visual brilliance of the coin. These DCAM products have a strong, frosted matte finish on the design set, with a deeply-mirrored, clear background field. This stark contrast in finishes creates the appearance of a design that floats above the background.
On the obverse of all Proof Gold American Eagle coins is the image of Lady Liberty leading the nation forward into an unknown future. This image of Liberty in full-length relief, her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, comes from Augustus Saint-Gaudens, a man considered the finest American coinage designer ever.
Modern artist and sculptor Miley Busiek created the reverse image used on Gold American Eagle coins. Her depiction of a family of nesting bald eagles was created exclusively for the Gold Eagle coin program.
Each of these 2008 Proof Gold American Eagle coins is unique for one major reason. After 22 consecutive years of production, the Proof Gold American Eagle was not struck by the US Mint 2009.
