It took 100 years, but Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ vision for Lady Liberty on an American gold coin was finally realized in 2009. The United States Mint released an ultra-high relief bullion coin this year that recreated Saint-Gaudens’ famous design in the manner he intended it back in 1907. Right now, you have the rare chance to purchase a 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle Coin from

Coin Highlights:

  • Roughly 8,842 coins exist in this grade!
  • Consists of one ounce of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of $20 (USD) backed by the United States government.
  • Graded a perfect coin by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Struck in ultra-high relief.
  • Produced at the West Point Mint and Philadelphia Mint (no mint marks).

President Theodore Roosevelt summoned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to a meeting in 1905 to ask the Irish-born artist and sculptor to help lead a renaissance in American coinage. Saint-Gaudens responded with impressive designs for the Indian Head $10 Eagle and the famous $20 Gold Double Eagle.

The depiction of Lady Liberty that Saint-Gaudens developed and refined in 1907-1908 first appeared on the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle between 1907 and 1933. However, his original design was meant to be featured on a high-relief coin. The United States Mint did not possess the technology at the time to realize his vision.

Fast forward to 2009, and the US Mint possessed the advanced technology to realize that dream on the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle coin. On the obverse side is Saint-Gaudens’ image of Lady Liberty, striding forward confidently into a brighter future. The sun’s rays are visible behind her, with a torch in her right hand guiding the way.

The reverse side of the coin bears his depiction of the bald eagle flying over a setting sun. In his image, the eagle has its wings spread as it soars over the sun. The setting sun is visible along the bottom, with its rays reaching out toward the edges of the coin.

Each coin in this product listing is available in perfect Mint State 70 grade. These coins have their full, original luster, and no blemishes, contact marks, or hairlines.
