Before the United States had a concept of national parks or land preservation as established by the federal government, Congress took action to protect the beauty of the land in and around Hot Springs, Arkansas. In April 1832, an act of Congress was passed establishing the Hot Springs Reservation to protect the land for future recreational use.
Fast forward nearly a century, and in March 1921 the United States government formally established Hot Springs National Park as part of the national park system. Today the park covers 5,550 acres of land and is governed by the National Park Service. As of 2017, it welcomes some 1.56 million people annually.
On the obverse side of the 2010 ATB Silver Hot Springs Coin is the portrait of George Washington. This effigy is the longest running design on an American coin. It was placed on the US circulation quarter in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Washington’s birth and it was designed by John Flanagan.
The reverse face of 2010-P Silver Burnished ATB Hot Springs Coins includes the image of a thermal fountain found at the front of the headquarters building within the park. The park is home to several free and paid hot baths that tap into natural hot springs in the area.
These 2010-P 5 oz Silver Burnished ATB Hot Springs Coins include a commemorative box for display and protection, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity. Burnished coins in the ATB Series are vapor blasted upon completion of coining for a matte finish and come with the Philadelphia Mint’s “P” mint mark.
