In 2010, demand for Proof Gold American Eagles came roaring back to life after a big slump in demand in 2008 and a lack of coins issued in 2009. The 2009 release was halted in the Proof Gold Eagle Series as all available blanks were directed to the production of the BU Gold Eagles as the Great Recession took hold and drove investors to precious metals. Today, 2010-W 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagles in perfect condition are available to you online at Silver.com.

Under the legislation that Congress passed to authorize the production of the Gold American Eagles, the US Mint is legally obligated to strike the BU Gold Eagles each year to match the demand from investors. Due to sky-high demand for BU Gold Eagles in 2009 and a shortage of suitable gold blanks, the US Mint had to halt production of both the Proof Gold Eagles and the Burnished Gold Eagles. The 2010 return of Proof Gold Eagles was met with a significant jump in demand as a result compared to 2008.

All of these 2010-W 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagles are available to you with plastic slabs and a PR70 grade. Coins in this condition are perfect specimens with full, original mint luster and no detractions of any kind. DCAM visuals indicate these coins have strong, frosted designs contrasting deeply-mirrored, clear fields.

On the obverse of 2010-W Proof Gold American Eagles, you will find Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic full-length portrait of Liberty. It shows her figure in front-facing relief with sun rays at her back, a ring of 50 stars around the field, and her hands holding both a torch and an olive branch.

The reverse side of 2010-W 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles comes with an exclusive design from Miley Busiek. The design depicts a female eagle with its hatchlings in a family nest as a male eagle soars overhead.
