The United States Mint produces the Gold American Eagle coin on an annual basis in three different versions: bullion, proof, and burnished. While the bullion coins are preferred by investors, the Proof Gold American Eagle is a favorite of collectors everywhere. Right now, the 2010-W 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle is available on in perfect condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Only 903 coins currently exist in this grade and condition!
  • Consists of a true gold weight of one troy ounce.
  • Issued a face value of $50 (USD) by the government of the United States.
  • Bears a PR70 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Features a Deep-cameo finish.
  • The “W” mint mark identifies the West Point Mint as the manufacturer.
  • Coins ship to you in PCGS protective slabs.

Gold American Eagles were introduced in 1986 with bullion and proof versions available. While the bullion coin had four weights available from the first year, the proof coin was only available at the time in this 1 oz weight. The three fractional weights, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz, were added in 1987 and 1988.

Each 2010-W 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle in this listing has a perfect proof grade. PR70 coins feature full, original mint luster and no blemishes, contact marks, or hairlines. Deep-cameo coins are highlighted by strong, frosted design sets that overlay a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.

Adding value to these coins is their status as the first proof coins struck by the United States Mint after the Proof Gold American Eagle program was halted for the 2009 production year.

On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is featured striding confidently forward into an unknown future. With the setting sun at her back and the nation’s capital at her feet, Liberty strides forward with a torch held aloft in her right hand. This design was originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907.

The reverse side features a family of nesting bald eagles as created in 1986 by sculptor Miley Busiek. Her depiction of the eagle family was made for and appears exclusively on Gold American Eagle coins.
