In 2011, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced an all-new silver bullion series featuring creatures from the Canadian wilderness. In a land of many natural wonders, just six animals were chosen to grace the reverse of Canadian Wildlife Series coins. The 2011 1 oz Silver Canadian Wolf coin is currently available on with NGC certification.

Coin Highlights:

  • First coin released in the Canadian Wildlife Series.
  • Only 946 coins currently exist in this grade from the NGC.
  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab.
  • Consists of one troy ounce of .9999 fine silver.
  • Issued a face value of $5 (CAD) by the federal government in Canada.
  • Graded Mint State 68 by the NGC.
  • Bears the image of a lone timberwolf on the reverse.

The 2011 1 oz Silver Canadian Wolf coins in this product listing feature an MS68 grade from the NGC. Coins in this condition have an attractive strike and full mint luster, but may also contain as many as four minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to miniscule contact marks, and are often found outside the primary focal area of the coin.

Silver Canadian Wildlife Series coins were struck over a three-year period. Each design was used just once, with two new releases in each calendar year. All coins in the series have a limited mintage that helped create buzz and generate demand for the coins.

On the reverse side of the coin is Royal Canadian Mint Assistant Engraver William Woodruff’s depiction of a timberwolf. The lone beast is featured in dominating size, with its figure towering above the forest of trees at its feet and its ears touching the moon in the sky above.

The obverse bears Susanna Blunt’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. England’s long reigning monarch is surrounded by engravings that include her name, the year of issue, and the face value of the coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint was originally founded to process and refine precious metals discovered in the Yukon Territories in the late 19th century. Today it produces circulation currency for the Canadian government, as well as numerous overseas governments.
