While no bullion Silver American Eagle coins feature mint marks, these coins are identifiable as originating at the San Francisco Mint based on the strap on the United States Mint Monster Box. 2011 marked the first time since 1998 that the US Mint struck the bullion Silver Eagles at San Francisco, the original home of the bullion coins dating back to 1986.
Amid crushing demand for the coins during the Great Recession, the United States Mint began striking bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint again to help support the West Point Mint. All of these 2011 Silver American Eagle Monster Boxes include a total of 500 coins, all of which are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Monster Box features a total of 25 tubes with 20 coins per tube.
On the obverse side of all 2011 Silver American Eagle Coins is the iconic image of Walking Liberty. This design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for use on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. This image depicts Liberty walking from left to right as she holds one hand outstretched and wears the American flag over her shoulders.
The reverse face of 2011 (S) Silver American Eagle Coins in this Monster Box include the design of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The heraldic eagle was originally created in 1794 by Robert Scot, the first Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, modernized this heraldic eagle in 1986 for the Silver Eagle collection.
