The Proof Gold American Eagles experienced waning demand as the Great Recession eased within the global economy. By 2011, markets were beginning to rebound even though gold prices remained high. Demand for collectible gold coins from the US Mint was weak, and the 1/2 oz coin suffered the greatest drop in demand from 2010 to 2011. Right now, 2011 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins are available to purchase online at Silver.com with NGC certification.

Each of the 2011 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins available to you online today at Silver.com comes with a perfect certification level from the NGC. Coins with a PF70 certification exhibit full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws on the designs or surface areas.
The included UCAM label designates the coins as ultra-cameo. This label speaks to the visual quality and nature of the designs and surface areas. The design elements have strong, frosted matte finishes contrasting with the deeply-mirrored, clear background fields of the coin.
2011 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagles experienced a drop of 17,746 coins from the previous release. This was the sharpest drop of the four coins in the series and kept the 1/2 oz coin in the typical spot of fourth among the four coins in terms of demand. The US Mint had set a maximum mintage for individual 1/2 oz coins at just 15,000, with an additional 40,000 available in the 4-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Set. Neither achieved a sellout.
The obverse side of 2011 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle coins includes the design of Lady Liberty. This image is an American icon and was the first of Liberty to feature on US coinage with a uniquely American look. Previous visions of Liberty were Greek and Roman-inspired.
On the reverse face of 2011 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagles is the design of a family of American bald eagles. This design was created by Miley Busiek and depicts a male eagle flying powerfully over the nest as a female vigilantly guards the hatchling within.
