Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy is seen on the obverse side of the coin, in keeping with laws that require her image to appear on Australian coins. The image was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is the effigy used on Australian coins from 1998 through late September 2018, when another effigy of the queen took its place.
