Chaco Canyon is located in northwestern New Mexico. Between 850 AD and 1150 AD, the area was a cultural hub for the ancient Pueblo nations of the region, as well as Hopi and Navajo tribes. The civilization that was built up around Chaco Canyon at that time linked together Native American tribes across a 40,000 square mile stretch of the American Southwest.

The 2012 5 oz Chaco Culture ATB Silver Coin is the second coin from the 2012 production year, and is the 12th coin overall in the 56-coin series. America the Beautiful celebrates the national parks, national forests, and cultural artifacts that played a major role in American history. The series includes five new coin designs each year, and is scheduled to run through 2021.

On the reverse side of these coins is the image of historic buildings from Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, with the engravings “Chaco Culture,” “New Mexico,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and the year of minting surrounding the design.

The obverse side of the coin bears the left-profile bust of President George Washington. His image is commonly found on the American quarter, and was refined in 1932 by John Flanagan for use on the quarter.

Each of the Chaco Culture ATB coins in this listing is in Mint State 69 condition, with a deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish that is uncommon on bullion coins. Each coin has its full, original luster, and no more than two minor detracting flaws.
