The Lunar Series II collection from the Perth Mint ran from 2008 to 2019. The Chinese Lunar Calendar, or Zodiac, follows a 12-year cycle that always begins with the Year of the Mouse and concludes with the Year of the Pig. With three collections in circulation as of 2020, the Perth Mint has produced distinctive designs of each animal across the three collections so that no new series looks like its predecessor.
All of the 2012 5 oz Silver Australian Lunar Dragons in this listing come with an individual plastic flip. The coins are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and had an initial mintage set at “unlimited.” This means the Perth Mint strikes a design through the end of the calendar year of its date mark. The final declared mintage for this design and weight was 31,664 coins.
Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of the 2012 5 oz Silver Australian Lunar Dragons. The Queen is the longest-reigning monarch in the history of England and has been on the throne since 1952. She is shown here in right-profile relief in the fifth-generation design during her reign. Her Majesty is captured in this design with the George IV State Diadem Crown, a piece from the Crown Jewels with 1,333 diamonds in its setting.
A Chinese dragon is depicted in the reverse design element of 2012 Silver Australian Lunar Dragons. This design showcases the slithering body of the Chinese dragon as it encircles the Chinese symbol for a dragon and purses a flaming pearl.
Founded in 1899, the Perth Mint is the oldest operating mint in Australia. Once a Royal Mint branch facility in Australia, today the Perth Mint is owned by the state of Western Australia and operates independently of the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra.
