The Silver American Eagle is the best-selling silver bullion coin in the world. While there are countless options available to investors, it is the official bullion coin of the United States that commands the most attention among those buying 1 oz silver coins. Throughout the Great Recession and the 2010s, the Silver Eagle Series set a number of different sales records, seemingly toppling records year after year. Today, 2012 Silver American Eagle Monster Boxes are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Total mintage of 33,742,500 coins in 2012!
  • Consists of 500 Troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • The individual face values of $1 (USD) are fully backed by the US government.
  • On the obverse is Walking Liberty.
  • The reverse features the heraldic eagle.

2012 came at the midpoint of a 9-year stretch in which the Silver American Eagle Series set a number of records for mintage. The record for single-year mintage prior to 2008 was the 1987 release with 11.44 million coins sold. In 2008, the Silver Eagle nearly doubled that in breaking the record and setting a new high-water mark at 20.583 million coins. The 2009, 2010, and 2011 coins would all set new records with each release. The 2012 release dipped by 7 million coins to 33.74 million, before the series went on another run of high mintages from 2013 to 2016, setting records in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Though 2016 was not a record, it was much higher than the 2012 release.

All of these 2012 Silver American Eagles are available to you inside of the original United States Mint Monster Box. The Monster Box holds a total of 500 individual 2012-dated Silver Eagles. The coins are housed within the box inside of acrylic tubes of 20 coins each, with a total of 25 tubes in all.

On the obverse of 2012 Silver Eagles is the Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman. Created in 1916, it first featured on the obverse side of the US half dollar through 1947. The design depicts Liberty in left-profile relief with the sun cresting a mountaintop in the distance.

The reverse face of the 2012 Silver American Eagle comes with the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The oldest American coin design still in use, the heraldic eagle has been modified numerous times for American coins since 1794. It was updated for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti and features a powerful bald eagle supporting the US national shield with a triangular cluster of 13 stars over its head.
