Ellen Wilson had only a short time as First Lady of President Woodrow Wilson, tragically cut short by Bright’s Disease, but she had a considerable impact on the White House and the nation at that time. Known for championing child labor laws and educational campaigns in Appalachia and for being an accomplished landscape and portrait painter, she is most famously connected with the White House Rose Garden whose creation she both conceived and oversaw. The United States Mint pays tribute to her as part of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program, with the 28th entry in its series of pure gold collectibles. The 2013-W 1/2 oz Gold Proof US Mint First Spouse Ellen Wilson Coin is now available for online purchase from Silver.com.

First Lady Ellen Wilson arrived in the White House with strong convictions and an interest in numerous charitable causes and artistic projects. She established her own dedicated art studio in the Presidential mansion, where her works were exhibited during her time there, and promoted the prohibition of child labor and comprehensive educational programs for the people of the Appalachian region, projects that would likely be more widely remembered today had she lived to pursue them longer. Above all else, she is remembered for her connection with the creation of the White House Rose Garden, which would remain a fixture long after her tenure.

A set of roses represent that Garden on this coin’s reverse field. They are accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” and “1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.”

The name and portrait of Ellen Wilson feature on the coin’s obverse field, accompanied by the West Point Mint’s “W” mint mark and the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “2013,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “28th 1913 – 1914.”

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
