From 2008 to 2011, the Silver American Eagle’s bullion coin set a new sales record on an annual basis. This was followed by a brief lull in 2012, which was corrected by a new surge in 2013 that saw 42.6 million bullion coins struck. This started a new wave of demand for the coin, as this sales record was itself broken in 2014, and again in 2015.
The 2013 Proof Silver American Eagle Series had a stellar sales year in its own right, with a total of 934,331 coins sold. The individually available Proof Silver American Eagles were sold without a maximum mintage set or a household order limit. As a result, the proof coins sold out by November.
However, 2013-W Proof Silver American Eagle coins were still available as part of two different numismatic offerings from the United States Mint throughout the year. It was also available as one of the coins in the 2013 Congratulations Set and the 2013 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set.
