The Perth Mint introduced the Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Series in 2014 to showcase Australia’s native animals. As the largest bird of prey in Australia, the wedge tail eagle is shown in this collection through the talented designs of John Mercanti. Currently, you can purchase the 2014 1 oz Australian Silver Wedge Tail Eagle Coin MS69 Varied Label PCGS or NGC online from Silver.com.

Minted in 99.9% fine silver, the 2014 1 oz Australian Silver Wedge Tail Eagle Coin MS69 Varied Label PCGS or NGC received a Mint State-69 grading from both the PCGS and the NGC. The MS69 grading means that the 2014 coin is near-perfect with a maximum of two minor imperfections. The coin still maintains its full, original mint luster but might have minuscule hairline flaws. Because the 2014 coin has a varied label, Silver.com cannot guarantee whether the PCGS or the NGC certified this coin.

For the Australian Wedge Tail Eagle series, retired 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, John Mercanti, has worked directly with the Perth Mint. This is the first time Mercanti has designed coins for another mint. By teaming up with the Perth Mint, the 2014 coin is made with the highest production quality possible.

On the obverse of the 2014 1 oz Australian Silver Wedge Tail Eagle Coin MS69 Varied Label PCGS or NGC, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is shown. This profile portrait was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is used to honor Queen Elizabeth II as a revered leader. The 2014 coin’s obverse also shows the $1 AUD face value.

On the reverse of the 2014 1 oz Australian Silver Wedge Tail Eagle Coin MS69 Varied Label PCGS or NGC, a wedge tailed eagle is seen soaring through the sky. Mercanti’s unique design shows the eagle’s wings outstretched in the air as the eagle extends its talons to land. Next to Mercanti’s design, the reverse also shows the purity and weight of the coin, the “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint, and the text, “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”.
